Voice RecognitionBy Joshua Erdman When you hear the words, Voice recognition, you might think of something like episodes on Star Trek where they would talk directly to the computer. Well today this may not be the case but it gets closer as technology progresses. Dragon Naturally Speaking provides a simple interface for person to computer dictation. The software features vary from basic diction to actual computer commands. Over the past few years I have had the privledge of setting up a Quadrapelegidc friend of mine with this software. It has allowed him to browse the internet and easily write e-mails to friends. He currently uses the Professional version because that allows you to navigate the mouse and give Microsoft Outlook commands. Click here for a feature matrix on Dragon Naturally Speaking. CostUnfortunately being able to give direct commands to your computer is not cheap. The costs vary from about $100 to over $500 for the professional version. Be sure you get version 7, the newest version, when you buy.
