Cisco RoutersBy Joshua Erdman I have worked with Cisco Routers for over 4 years. It has taken many hours of research and plenty of questions to get me where I am today. The current book out is called Cisco Router Configuration & Troubleshooting. It will help you with understanding routers, IP addresses, Subnet masks, Cisco IOS, and how they all work together. You do not even need a Cisco router to start; the first few chapters teach you networking theory and basics, such as the 7-layer OSI model. From there it begins to cover maintaining your Cisco Router and creating access lists and applying them to an interface. The book I learned from was Introduction to Cisco Router Configuration. It is no longer in print and I haven't gotten a chance to look at the new version yet but you can still buy it used. Participate in our Forum on Network Hardware. Article last reviewed: 06/27/2004
