Stopping Pop-up Messages

By Joshua Erdman
Digital Foundation, inc.

Messenger Windows can be stopped by turning off the Messenger service on your computer. To do this, right-click the "My Computer" icon and select "Manage". Then open the "Services and Applications" group. Select "Services" and look for "Messenger". Double-Click Messenger and change the startup type to manual. This will prevent the Messenger Service from starting up the next time you reboot the computer. Click OK and then right-click the Messenger Service and choose "Stop". This will turn it off.

Keep in mind that recieving message ads is a good indicator that your computer is not protected from the Internet and you should implement some type of firewall. Turning off the Messenger Service does not protect you, it only removes the annoyance. Please Contact Digital Foundation for more information.

If your computer gets pop-up windows then it has been hijacked by MalWare and you need to read our article on Removing MalWare.
