Blocking Pop Up Windows

By now you are familiar with several pop-up blocker utilities (ironically, many of these were advertised to you in a pop-up window as well). Do not waste your money and use this software. There are free utilites made by legitimate companies who are not out to take advantage of you.

Google Toolbar

The Google Toolbar has a pop-up window blocker built in. Not only can it block ads, but it gives you a place to do instant searches and you can even turn on the ranking buttons so you can vote for websites that you like. I have found it to be very effective with blocking pop up windows that are generated by the code inside a website that I am viewing. Remember this only blocks pop-up windows that come from the website you are browsing. This does not block other pop-ups that come from MalWare. Windows XP Service Pack 2

If you are getting pop-up windows when you are not browsing the internet then your computer has been _hijacked_ by MalWare and you need to read our article on Removing Malware.
